MMA HISTORY
MMA was founded by Louie Rosado, who has been traveling extensively since 1972 scouting and preparing, setting up centers all around the world.
In the year 2000 we began providing free medical clinics in public parks joining efforts with local hospitals and schools. The success of these clinics was tremendous, providing as many as one thousand individuals with medical care, food, back to school supplies and referrals from the multitude of agencies available through the local cities. Since then, we have been doing the same all over the world and have operated medical clinics in such places as Cambodia, Armenia, Tajikistan, Sri Lanka, Mexico, and Cuba.
Louie has been a licensed respiratory therapist since 1986 and is currently employed at Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Burbank, California.
Through his dedicated service and organizational skills, Louie has enabled MMA to make the trips safe and enjoyable for our participants as well as successfully providing the much needed medical care to those we serve!
MMA BOARD MEETING
On Wednesday, May 5th, the MMA Board of Directors held its quarterly meeting. Our President, Louie Rosado, gave a status report of current MMA activities and upcoming events. He also shared his vision for the future of MMA and discussed a reassessment of our outreach priorities by changing our primary focus from international to local.
Louie accepted an invitation from RAM (Remote Area Medical) to serve with them at their recent medical clinic held at the LA Sports Arena. While there, he was able to build contacts with many other organizations and individuals. He discovered that there are a multitude of local medical professionals willing to participate in short-term local outreaches.
Getting doctors, dentists, and vision care specialists to leave their practices for a week or more and travel half way around the world to serve the needy has sometimes been difficult. Add to that the costs involved for travel and accomodations and you can see how much preparation and dedication is required for our medical professionals to arrange for such trips.
Now that MMA has its Mobile Medical Clinic, the opportunity to serve the needy in our own and nearby communities has opened to us in a way that was not previously possible. Through his newly aquired contacts, Louie will now be able to put together many local outreaches and have a great many medical professionals to help serve.
Eventhough we are still in the early planning stages, we are excited about this new direction and are anticipating great things in the future of MMA.
